CALL TO ORDER: Commodore McGillin called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore Roberts led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Jennerich recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance, and he royally assumed the chair of honor.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as amended, after the Secretary’s wife corrected him.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary an announcement from Everett Yacht Club regarding their Silver Ball on October 20th.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: An application for membership was read from Captain Tony Stempak, who was present and recognized.

SPECIAL ELECTION: P/C Scott Grimm, on behalf of the Nominating Committee, described the process used to select P/C Rich McCroskey to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees. Nominations from the floor were opened; none were offered. By unanimous vote, the members elected P/C McCroskey to the Board, and he was installed. Subsequently, the Treasurer was also installed in his role for the ’07-’08 year.

INITATION: Acting Membership Chairman Chris Benson presided over the initiation of 11 new members – Captains Virginia Harris, James VanWagonen, Larry Houk, Steven Coughlin, Douglas Scott, Rick Anderson, Kirk Hanson, Brynt Field, Brooke Kymes, Pat Wilson, and Kim Bowden.

COMMODORE: Commodore McGillin, after welcoming the new members, reported that many other clubs want to send entrants to the “Closing Day” parade, which was “a hoot.” He thanked Crystal and P/C Yates for a great Commodore’s Ball, and quickly described a number of upcoming events:

  • Oct. 19-21 Flag Officer’s Race
  • Oct. 27 Steak, Scotch, and Cigar Night
  • Nov. 9 Tarettes Country Store and Friday Night Social
  • Nov. 27 Clubhouse Christmas decorating
  • Dec. 1 UW vs. Hawaii fleet captain’s luau event
  • Dec. 2 Special People’s Cruise
  • Dec. 6 Tarette’s Captain’s Dinner
  • Dec. 8 Children’s Christmas Party

Also, he reported that Captain Tom Youngs is going to arrange another bulk fuel purchase – volunteers are needed.

Last, the Commodore noted that the budgeting process is underway, and the new budget is expected to be presented to the Board at its November meeting.

VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Roberts briefly summarized work underway on the docks at the main station and at the Outstation.

REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Jennerich, following recognition of the new members, reported that during the next meeting the drawing for “new member’s lottery” will be held – one must be present to win. He thanked Captain Linda Roehl for her work leading grounds activities, as well as the 42 participants at the last work party. Last, the Rear Commodore thanked Joie Roehl for her success in cajoling the sanitation company to give us new dumpsters.

TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers reported that 11 new Senior Life Members have been so designated, and that recently-received property tax assessments have the Bainbridge Outstation assessed at $1.4 MM and the main station at $9.25 MM. He reported that Jonelle is back working in the office, and that billings went out recently.

At this point, due to the length of the meeting, the Commodore suspended the remainder of the usual meeting agenda, as permitted under the bylaws.

RECEPTION: R/C Jennerich again recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance. 87 members were present several guests. Prospective members Captains Arne Svendsen and Ron Voegeli were introduced. 8 Past Commodores were present and recognized. After being summoned back to the podium at the Secretary’s insistence, R/C Jennerich recognized Captain Randy Garvie as the junior member in attendance.

QUARTER POT: Judy Wilson pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Lewis Titland and Bob Svendsen won Friday lunches, and Captain Chuck Cooper won the quarter pot.

Subsequent to the Commodore reminding attendees to see the Vice and Rear Commodores on their way out of the meeting for their drink ticket, the meeting was adjourned at 2055 hours.
