CALL TO ORDER:  Commodore McGillin called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1943 hours – 13 minutes late!

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  Vice-Commodore Roberts led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION:  Rear-Commodore Jennerich recognized Captain Ray Meyers as the senior member in attendance.

READING OF THE MINUTES:  Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

CORRESPONDENCE:  The Secretary read letters of withdrawal from Captains Russell Castner and Steven Zeasman, which were approved by the membership.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP:  An application for membership was received from Captain Dan Lohse , who was present and recognized.

BY-LAWS VOTE:  By-Laws Chairman and P/C Scott Grimm conducted a vote by the members on a petition to eliminate the Architectural Advisory Committee.  Statements in support of and in opposition to the petition were presented by Captain Jerry Zuvich and P/C Rich McCroskey, respectively.  Subsequently, 127 members in attendance voted, and results presented to the Secretary later in the meeting showed 35 in favor of the petition and 92 opposed.  Accordingly, the petition failed to pass.

COMMODORE:  Commodore McGillin thanked the By-Law Committee and those members who voted for their active participation in Club matters.  He noted the fine work done by the Decorating Committee, led by Carol Soffel, in the previous night’s work at the main station, and especially Jonelle’s contributions.

He highlighted several upcoming events, including:

  • Dec. 1 UW/Hawaii Fleet Captain’s event
  • Dec. 2 Special People’s Cruise
  • Dec. 6 Captain’s Dinner
  • Dec. 7-8 Lighted Boat Parade
  • New Year’s Eve event.

VICE-COMMODORE:  Vice Commodore Roberts reported that the spider eradication program began the previous Friday, and that there will be another application in the Spring.  He also reported that the dock inspection program will begin late-December, and volunteers are requested to work with Captain Art Mauldin.

REAR-COMMODORE:  Rear Commodore Jennerich reported that a new, larger garbage container has replaced two smaller ones, and may result in an additional parking space.

TREASURER:  Treasurer John Rogers, in his shortest report ever, stated that the Club’s finances are in order, and only a few outstanding invoices remain unpaid.

EIGHT BELL CEREMONY:  Chaplain Ken Klett conducted an eight bell ceremony for Captain Nev Lambert, who passed away on June 21.

FLEET CAPTAIN:  Fleet Captain Paul Grimm, festooned in silly Hawaiian garb and accompanied (?) by Captain Gary Stone with a child’s guitar, described the upcoming UW/Hawaii event at the main station.

MEMBERSHIP:  Chairman Mark LaFountaine reported that initiations of new members are ahead of last year’s pace, and encouraged all to use the new brochures with prospective members.

CLUB MANAGER:  Captain Jess Hill, in a 26-second (!) report, thanked Captain Tony Stempek for his recent donation of an ice maker for the upper level of the clubhouse.

HOUSE:  Captain Jim Damery updated members on work underway on the railing outside the main station, and stated that canvas would soon be installed.

 

OTHER REPORTS:

Captain Jerry Zuvich, after embarrassing the Secretary and several others into forking over some cash, reported that the Nov. 24 “After Shopping” event raised in excess of $1500 for the Boyer Children’s Clinic.

Captain Randy Garvie reported that dock inspections would begin soon.

Captain Larry Dubia reported that publicity for the Lighted Boat Parade will be in the Seattle Times.

Captain Bill Field reminded members of the Sunday, Dec. 2 Special People’s Cruise from 3:30-5:30 PM, and requested volunteers.

Shirley Rogers reminded attendees of the Dec. 6 Tarette’s Captain’s Dinner, for which reservations are required.

Captain Butch Scherer invited participation in the Lighted Boat Parade on December 7-8, for which he promised 70 degree weather and no wind.

P/C Rich McCroskey briefly described the New Year’s Eve event, which will include a filet dinner and a band – reservations are required.

Captain Gary Stone updated members on the 520 Committee’s work, and noted that the Governor wants a new bridge by 2012.

Captain Tom Youngs reported that the bulk fuel purchase at Ballard Oil is scheduled for Dec. 6-8.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Captain Kent Soffel asked members to contact their legislators in support of the exemption for pleasure boats to Congress’s proposed bilge discharge rules.

RECEPTION: R/C Jennerich again recognized Captain Ray Meyers as the senior member in attendance and Captain Randy Garvie as the junior member in attendance.  103 members signed in, and 16 Past Commodores were present and recognized.  

QUARTER POT: P/C Phil Hardwick pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot.  Captains Chris Benson and Paul Grimm won Friday lunches, and Captain Diane Carlisle won the quarter pot.

The meeting was adjourned at 2120.
