CALL TO ORDER: Commodore McGillin called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1937 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore Roberts led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Jennerich recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a thank you note from the Boyer Children’s Clinic and a letter of withdrawal from Captain Mike Duncan, which was approved by the membership.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None.
INITIATION: Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine presided over the initiation of Captains Bill Conley, Lana McGinnis, Arne Svensen, Tony Stempek, and Ronald Voegli.
COMMODORE: Commodore McGillin reported that the ’07-’08 budget was completed, and he thanked the Planning and Finance Committee for their help. He reported that the Club’s Predicted Log racers allowed him to be the winner of a side bet with Seattle Yacht Club’s Commodore for the QCYC/SYC Challenge Cup.
The Commodore summarized the recent Board meeting, and noted that some rule changes would be published in the new Annual. That Annual is expected to be mailed in early December. Further, he reported that the vote on a proposed bylaw amendment to eliminate the AAC will take place on November 28. He highlighted several upcoming events, including:
- Nov. 27 Clubhouse Christmas decorating party
- Dec. 7-8 Lighted Boat Parade
- New Year’s Eve event.
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore Roberts reported that dock inspections will begin the week of December 29, under the guidance of Captain Art Mauldin. Volunteers are needed to help. He reported that the downspout project is completed, and that a bike rack will soon be installed at the Bainbridge Outstation.
Last, the Vice Commodore summarized several new rules adopted by the Board relating to moorage in the “U” and at the Outstations, as well as to the use of blue tarps.
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Jennerich thanked Captain Mark LaFountaine for his work in the membership arena, and reported on several security upgrades in the works. He also noted some grounds projects being planned by Captain Linda Roehl, including dumpster enclosures and addressing the west hill.
TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers reported that some bills were still outstanding, and stated that $50 late fees would be assessed by Friday. $50K of bonds have been payed down, and indebtedness to Club members has been reduced by about $100K. He noted that Captain Dick Best’s wife Betty donated their bonds to the Junior Sailing Club. Last, the Treasurer reported that new membership cards are being prepared.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Captain Larry Dubia reported that a visit to the Coast Guard Museum and a tour of the Polar Sea was scheduled for November 17 at 10 AM, with lunch following. The Commodore reminded members of the Dec. 1 will be instation “cruise” during the UW – Hawaii football game; a Polynesian meal will be served, and Hawaiian garb is encouraged.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Mark LaFountaine thanked sponsors over the past the 18 months and welcomed the new members to the Club.
CLUB MANAGER: Captain Jess Hill thanked Captain Tony Stempek for his recent donation of an ice maker for the upper level of the clubhouse. He invited members to attend the Saturday, Nov. 24 “After Shopping” dinner, with profits from the dinner and half the bar’s profits to benefit the Boyer Children’s Clinic. Those profits will be matched by the Club.
OTHER REPORTS: Captain Butch Scherer invited participation in the 66th Annual Chet Gibson Lighted Boat Parade on December 7-8. He encouraged new members and other non-Club boaters to participate, and stated that chili and hot buttered rum will be served after the event on Saturday night.
RBAW President Captain Robert Murphy presented a current RBAW burgee to the Commodore, to replace the old one hanging in the Clubhouse. He noted that QCYC has the highest participation among RBAW’s 1700 members.
Captain Tom Youngs reported that the downspout project was complete, and thanked by name all those who have helped over the past two years. He also stated that a bulk fuel purchase at Ballard Oil is expected to take place late-November or early-December.
Outstation Boss Captain Barbara Wood, in an apparent “slam” at her hard-working husband, reported that she, and she alone, put up the Christmas lights at the Bainbridge Outstation the previous day.
Captain Bill Field reminded members of the Sunday, Dec. 2 Special People’s Cruise from 3:30-5:30 PM, and requested volunteers.
P/C Rich McCroskey briefly described the New Year’s Eve event, which will include a filet dinner and a band – reservations are required.
OLD BUSINESS: None.

RECEPTION: R/C Jennerich again recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance and Captain Steve Coughlin as the junior member in attendance. 57 members were present, along with several guests. 4 Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain Steve Coughlin pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Jim Damery and Larry Dubia won Friday lunches, and Captain Don Frisell won the quarter pot.
