CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Dick Spence called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1932 hours.

READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Grimm read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved by the membership as read.

SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear Commodore Krows announced and recognized Past Commodore Wes Mauldin, #13, as the senior member in attendance.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a letter of reciprocity from Richland Yacht Club.

The Secretary also read a request for use of the club by Captain Ernie Lauridsen on August 4, 2001 for a wedding reception. No conflict was noted.

ACTION ON CORRESPONDENCE: None.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None

 

OFFICERS REPORTS:

COMMODORE: Commodore Spence reported on a very successful Champagne Brunch at the club. Over 100 guests ate and sipped champagne. The Commodore reminded members of the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend cruise to Eagle Harbor. Lastly, the Commodore announced the 85th birthday of the club with cake and coffee served after the meeting.

VICE-COMMODORE: Vice-Commodore Baker thanked members who participated in the Opening Day Weekend and noted that he would make sure that all the names were printed in the Bilge Pump. He reported that the crack repair project on the parking lot is a work in progress and should be completed shortly. He also noted that oil spill kits were available in front of Dock Two. Any materials used by members to stop an oil spill on their boat must be replaced by the member.

Lastly, the Vice-Commodore also reported that he had received a nice thank you note from the Vice-Commodore at Poulsbo Yacht Club, complimenting the club for its hospitality.

REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore David Krows reported that four committees did a bang up job on Opening Day Weekend. He also reported that the Ships Stores garnered over $6,000 in sales over the weekend.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD: Chairman Bob Gunderson reported that the evening would have a vote on changes in the bylaws, one to reinstate life membership; the other to institute life membership for past commodores. Captain Jim Musgrove presented the proposals to the membership. Numerous members made pitches for and against life membership. Finally, the membership voted on the proposals. The elections committee retired to count the votes.

TREASURER: Treasurer Lewis Titland reported that eleven members were late on their moorage fees and encouraged members to get their fees in or face suspension.

FLEET CAPTAIN: With the absence of Fleet Captain Al Reiche from the meeting, there were no long-winded reports on fleet cruises.

RBAW: Captain Werner Otto, making up for Fleet Captain Reiche, reported at length that the live-aboard bill had been defeated in the legislature and no action would be taken this year. He also reported that there could be lower prices for fuel in Canada this summer. He also reported on fishing regulations in Canada; and the fuel cap bill in progress in the legislature.

MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Tim Connelly reported that there were two members in waiting, with one to be approved at the next board meeting.

VISITATION: Captain Harris Johnson reported Captain Harland Sharp is in a nursing home and asked members to sign the card being circulated.

CLUB MANAGER: Past Commodore Ron Rolstad reported that a lot of money was made over the weekend.

NOMINATIONS: Past Commodore Russ Oberg announced again the nominees as follows:

A motion was made to close the nominations by Past Commodore Ewell. The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.

MEMORIAL DAY: Captain Werner Otto, killing time for the Commodore while the vote was being counted, gave a succinct list of the events scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend.

OPENING DAY: Secretary Grimm, helping out and killing even more time while the vote was being counted, showed off the second place trophy won as a parade boat. He thanked the decorations committee.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Program Chairman Captain Ron Dawson found something to talk about while the vote was being counted and announced that there would be a speaker at the next meeting, presenting a discourse on the subject of milfoil.

NEW BUSINESS: No one offered to kill any more time and therefore there was no new business.

RECEPTION: Rear Commodore Krows again recognized Past Commodore Wes Mauldin, #13, as the senior member in attendance. There were seventy-seven members in attendance with eleven past commodores present and recognized. Two mates were also in attendance and recognized. Captain Stephanie Weiss #541, was the junior member in attendance.

QUARTER POT: Captain Stephanie Weiss drew for the quarter pot. Captains Orrin Phillips and Werner Skowronnek won a Friday Lunch. Captain David Gunn’s name was pulled for quarter pot, but was not present to win.

GOOD & WELFARE: Secretary Grimm and Past Commodore Mauldin provided good and welfare.

VOTE ON BYLAWS CHANGES: Each of the bylaws changes was defeated by not receiving the requisite two-thirds votes.

The meeting was adjourned at 2117 hours.
