CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Yates called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore McGillin led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENTATION: Admiral Roger Werner and his team from Seattle Yacht Club gave a brief presentation on this year’s event, themed “Musical Memories.”
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Roberts recognized Captain David Nelson as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: None.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None.
COMMODORE: Commodore Yates reported on a fun St. Patrick’s Day event, and noted that Captain Sherry Weiss will be putting on the Children’s Easter Party on April 7 and the theme of the Friday, April 13 Friday night social is “Get Lucky.”
The Commodore thanked Captain Mike Shannon for his donation of tools to the club, and discussed operation of the electric-hydraulic boom in the U.
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore McGillin reported that milfoil application will start soon, and reminded members that current Washington Department of Licensing registration and decals are required for all mooring members. He encouraged participation at the April 21-22 Bainbridge Outstation work party, and noted that Olympic Yacht Center would be providing two shuttle boats for Opening Day weekend.
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Roberts reminded attendees that the Summer Sailing Sessions are open to all children ages 8-17, and thanked P/C McCroskey for his work heading the February grounds work party. He asked those who will have slips available for use on Opening Day weekend to let him know, and reminded members of the one car per member restriction that weekend.
TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers thanked those who helped with the Quarterly Billing, and discussed the capital, contingency, and reserve funds, which are nearly $650K.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain George Austin reported on the 22-boat cruise to Andrews Bay on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, noted the Big Brother Cruise with Bremerton Yacht Club in June, and stated that 14 boats have already signed up for the summer cruise to the San Juan Islands.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
REGATTA POWER: Captain Bob Lindal presented hardware to winners of the Meydenbauer and Novice and Old Timer’s races, and asked for observers for the SYC/QCYC Eagle Harbor Race.
CLUB MANAGER: Captain Jess Hill reported that income was over $1100 from the last Friday Night Social and over $800 from an outside event the previous weekend. He noted that the wine glasses donated by Captain Peter Anderson were in new shelves downstairs and that a new refrigerator was purchased from the Commodore’s slush fund.
MEMBERSHIP: Chairman Mark LaFountaine encouraged attendees to each identify one prospective candidate to join the Club, and reminded members of the two $1,000 “lotto” prizes.
OTHER REPORTS:
Captain Gary Stone reported that the 520 Committee will be meeting with Washington DOT representatives tomorrow to hear their proposals.
Captain Jerry Zuvich reported that the Pride of Queen City work party on April 28 had already received over $100 of donations from those who will not be able to participate.
Captain Dave Svendsen reported that Dock 1’s water supply will soon need to be re-plumbed.
Suzie Roberts invited members to participate in the Saturday, June 16 “Race for the Cure” – she and Captain Doug Lindal have formed a team for this event.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: Captain Jerry Zuvich reviewed a questionnaire prepared to gauge members’ response to proposed changes to the main station’s décor and appearance.
RECEPTION: R/C Roberts again recognized Captain David Nelson as the senior member in attendance and Captain Aaron Baldie as the junior member in attendance. 50 members were present, and 4 Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain David Nelson pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Larry Dubya and Aaron Baldie won Friday lunches, and Captain Mark LaFountaine won the quarter pot.
GOOD & WELFARE: None.
