CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Dick Spence called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1930 hours.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Grimm read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved by the membership as read.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear Commodore Krows announced and recognized Captain Past Commodore Wes Mauldin, #13, as the senior member in attendance.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a letter of reciprocity from Fidalgo Yacht Club.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None
OPENING DAY: Commodore Dick Spence introduced Admiral of the Day Bob Berst, Admiralette Jane Heinrich and Vice-Admiral of the Day Jim Vaupell from Seattle Yacht Club. The officers extended an invitation to QCYC to participate in the festivities and events. They announced that the theme is "2001, A Sea Odyssey". Many events are planned. Finally, Admiral Berst finished with some high brow humor.
ACOUSTICAL FUNDRAISER: Captain Leonard Almo appealed to the membership to participate in the fundraiser for the second deck acoustic solution. Captain Almo noted that donations were going very well.
PROGRAM: Program Chairman Captain Ron Dawson introduced Dave Forest, a mechanical engineer with extensive background in sound control and acoustical management, who spoke to the membership about noise reduction and the different products that can be used to reduce noise in the clubhouse.
Officers Reports
COMMODORE: Commodore Dick Spence reported that more than twenty boats attended the St Patrick’s Day Cruise to Andrews Bay. The Commodore described the day as a great success.
The Friday Night Social sponsored by Captains Scowronnek, Johnson and Stoinski was attended by more than 100 people. The captains put on the dog, literally, serving bratwurst along with wine kraut and German beer.
Lastly, the Commodore noted the following upcoming events:

- 4/6 Friday Night Social put on by the Chris Craft owners, a seafood dinner.
- 4/7 Eagle Harbor Predicted Log Race
- 4/14 Children’s Easter Party
- 4/15 Champagne Brunch for Easter Sunday
- 4/20-4/22 Tacoma Daffodil Festival
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice-Commodore Baker reported that there is a sewer problem. He and a subterranean sanitation specialist investigated and found all sorts of interesting things in the sewer. The specialist recommended limiting the types of detergent used in the laundry room.
The Vice-Commodore also reported that the trans-Lake Washington project is percolating again. While no funds are currently available for such a project, the idea is gaining steam. The expansion of the bridge could impact the club. The Vice-Commodore said he would keep tabs on any progress.
Vice-Commodore Baker also noted that quake repairs have been funded and repairs will be made shortly. A member of the club, who is a structural engineer, volunteered to give an assessment of the damage to the docks and roofs.
According to the Vice-Commodore, the board has approved the re-roofing of the docks. Work will commence immediately with two to three to be done right away.
Vice-Commodore Baker reported that Captain Tim Connelly has procured a donation to the club of spill kits. These kits have been donated by Foss Environmental. Lastly, the Vice-Commodore advised members that the police patrol is working with the Coast Guard to identify spills. Members are responsible for spillage or dumping from their boats and should inspect their bilges and tanks for issues.
REAR COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Krows thanked Captain Jack Dorgan for refinishing the spokes on the wheel. The Rear Commodore also reported that the albatross around his neck, i.e., the light for the flagpole, is finally working.
Lastly, the Rear Commodore asked members to help out on 4/28 to plant flowers and do general sprucing up of the club before Opening Day.
TREASURER: No Report.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain Al Reiche, in a rare and surprisingly short-winded report, noted that the St Patrick’s Day Cruise was a success. He asked members for reservations for the Daffodil Festival and reminded members of the upcoming Big Brother Cruise with Bremerton in June.
REGATTA POWER: Chairman Bob Lindal reported that four QCYC boats attended the Gig Harbor Race with Past Commodore Dick Timmerman finishing second.
The Chairman also noted the upcoming Eagle Harbor Race at the Outstation, which is slated for 4/7. All are welcome. There will be a streak fry on Saturday night and a breakfast on Sunday morning. He is expecting about 40 boats. P/C Dick Timmerman asked for observer help on the boats.
REGATTA SAIL: Chairman Dennis Counts announced that on 4/20 – 4/22, Regatta Sail is sponsoring a cruise to the outstation with a race on Saturday. Stinkpots are invited, but racing is strictly a ragbag event.
HOUSE: Chairman Jim Damery reported briefly on work to put the house in order for Opening Day.
VISITATION: Chairman Don Westerberg reported Captain Jess Hill is in the hospital for a double by-pass. It is rumored that he is changing the menu for the regular meetings.
The Chairman also reported that Captain Bob Leander, who joined in 1973, is suffering complications from heart disease and diabetes. The Chairman passed around a get-well card for him.
CLUB MANAGER: Past Commodore Ron Rolstad reported that he is planning a big morning for Sunday on Opening Day Weekend and is looking for help. Also, he will be heading up a training class for the bartending crew at 7:00pm on 4/2.
CHILDREN’S EASTER PARTY: Captain Mark Weiss is looking for help with the Children’s Easter Party. Bubbles the Clown is scheduled to appear along with the Easter Bunny.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS: Past Commodore Jeff Ewell announced that he would put on a lecture to teach provisioning, navigation, etc for long-distance cruising.
Fleet Surgeon Tim DeCook talked about the acquisition of a difibrillator and is working on a training schedule in conjunction with CPR training.
RECEPTION: Rear Commodore Krows again recognized Past Commodore Wes Mauldin, #13, as the senior member in attendance. There were forty-four members in attendance with six past commodores present and recognized. Two mates were also in attendance and recognized. Captain Pat Baker, #540, was the junior member in attendance.
QUARTER POT: Captain Pat Baker drew for quarter pot. Captains Hardwick and Reiche won a Friday Lunch. Rear Commodore Dave Krows name was pulled for quarter pot and was present to win.
GOOD & WELFARE: Captain Ron Dawson provided good and welfare.
