CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Yates called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1940 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore McGillin led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Roberts recognized Captain Ray Meyers as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a note from Captain Ed Allison alerting members to the fact that Gibson’s Yacht Club in British Columbia is no longer a reciprocal site, as it is under repair.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: Applications from Captains Randy Garvie, Brian Calvert, and Jeannie Lone were read; all were present and recognized.
NEW MEMBER INITIATION: Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine presided over the initiations of Captains Donald Frisel, Chad Morse, Mark Nance, Gordon Niemi, Philip Strnrd, and Brett Yates.
COMMODORE: Commodore Yates reported on a successful Memorial Day event, as well as the Tarette’s Dock Party and the Saturday Night Social, spearheaded by Captain Kyle Bixby and his wife Tracy. He reminded attendees that those who attend the Big Brother’s Cruise at Bainbridge will be allowed to keep their boats out there unattended until the July 4th event. The July 4th event will run Tuesday through Thursday, and will be chaired by Captain Steve and Jackie Weiss.
Also, the Commodore reported that a recent water problem concern voiced by a neighbor had been attributed to a City of Seattle malfunction. Last, he noted that Captain Don Meyer had recently passed away.
The Commodore turned over the meeting to P/C Wes Mauldin, who conducted the remainder of the meeting.
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore McGillin alerted members to the “Support the Troops” donations being collected by Margaret Krows, with proceeds to go to the troop with which Commodore Bob and Crystal Yates’ son is serving in the Middle East. He reported that the 520 Committee will continue its work during the summer, information regarding replacing the transverse dock at Bainbridge is forthcoming, and the computer systems in the main clubhouse are being updated. He noted that Andrea Carey is gone for 4 weeks, and her replacement is Janel. Last, he reminded members of the need to share dock space at the Ganges and Deer Harbor outstations per the rules.
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Roberts thanked Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine for his work this year, and noted that the Junior Sailing club classes will begin soon. Last, he reminded members of the one-car-per-member rule in effect from June 15-on.
TREASURER: Treasurer John Rogers thanked Captain Steve Farber for filling in recently, and stated that the financials will be up to date on the web site soon. The DNR lease at Bainbridge, about $33K, was recently paid.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain George Austin reminded members of the Big Brothers Cruise to the Bainbridge Outstation June 23-24, and noted that 27 boats have already signed up for the summer cruise to the San Juan Islands. Screw-up flags were presented to Captain Jim Hess (for flying the burgee upside-down on his dinghy) and Captain Ed Allison (who left his wife behind on the dock at Bainbridge recently). To add insult to injury, Misty Allison chewed him out in front of the assemblage.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
REGATTA POWER: Captain Bob Lindal reported results of the Filucy Bay Race, and noted the upcoming Barusch and ICR races.
CLUB MANAGER: Captain Jess Hill, in a lavish ceremony, presented P/C Carl Weiss with the plaque from the old refrigerator in the bar area. With even more fanfare and with help from the bartenders and those who contributed time, labor, and materials, the new-to-the-club, refurbished rolling bar for use on the 3rd level was unveiled.
OTHER REPORTS:
Captain Jim Damery asked attendees to put the September 15-16 Fishing Derby at Bainbridge on their calendars. A steak dinner is planned.
P/C Scott Grimm asked members for vintage action photos of Club members’ boats, as he and P/C Jeff Ewell are assembling same for possible display in the main clubhouse.
Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine reported that current Active membership in the club stands at 377 people, with three more expected to be initiated at the next meeting.
Captain Gary Stone updated members on the 520 Committee’s work in the political arena. Also, he noted that the July 4th Bainbridge parade vehicles are ready to go, and this year will include a go-kart from Captain Jim Hess.
Captain Kyle Bixby thanked those who helped and those who attended the recent Saturday Night Social.
Captain Steve Swingler thanked those who helped with the Old Timer’s Night event, and P/C Lynn Montgomery in particular for the use of his boat.
P/C Mauldin related a story regarding Captain Percy Kidder and his in-the-field engine replacement.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: Captain Tom Youngs reported that he is attempting to arrange another group fuel purchase at Ballard Oil on June 28-30, and asked for volunteers to help, along with commitments from those interested in participating.
Captain Jerry Zuvich presented a proposal regarding dissolution of the Architectural Advisory Committee, signed by 41 members, which he asked the Secretary to read and bring forward to the Board of Trustees at their next meeting.
Last, Vice Commodore McGillin reported that $536 in cash had been raised during the evening for the “Support the Troops” cause.
RECEPTION: R/C Roberts again recognized Captain Ray Meyers as the senior member in attendance and Captain Mitch Garden as the junior member in attendance. 83 members were present, and 13 Past Commodores were present and recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain Howie Wilson pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Larry Keeler and Gerald Fey won Friday lunches, and Captain Pete Clark won the quarter pot.
