CALL TO ORDER: Commodore Yates called the meeting to order in the Clubhouse at 1935 hours.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice-Commodore McGillin led the general membership in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
SENIOR MEMBER RECOGNITION: Rear-Commodore Roberts recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance.
READING OF THE MINUTES: Secretary Wood read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read a letter of thanks from the Boyer Children’s Home and a letter of reciprocity from the West Seattle Yacht Club at Brownsville.
APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: None.
GUEST SPEAKER: P/C Mike Henry and his wife Billie from the Bremerton Yacht Club reported results of the Bremerton Heavy Weather Race, and presented the winning trophy to P/C Dick and Jan Spence.
COMMODORE: Commodore Yates reported on a successful President’s Day cruise to the Bainbridge Outstation, noted that the Novice and Old-Timer’s Race is on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and reminded members that reservations are required for the April 21-22 Daffodil Cruise at Tacoma Yacht Club.
VICE-COMMODORE: Vice Commodore McGillin thanked Captains Jerry Zuvich and Bob Prestebak for their work upgrading the Dock 2 electrical service, and reported that Waterfront Construction’s dock work is completed. He asked mooring members to be sure and remove items stored on the docks – especially rubber mats, as they hold moisture.
The Vice Commodore reported that the leased for Ganges and Deer Harbor Outstations are in hand, and reminded attendees of the Bainbridge Outstation work party scheduled for the weekend of April 21-22.
Last, the Vice Commodore noted that valid Washington state registrations are required for moorage, and that about 100 members are not current with that requirement.
REAR-COMMODORE: Rear Commodore Roberts reported that Membership Chairman Mark LaFountaine was having a new brochure printed, and encouraged members to use it with prospective members. He also reported that Opening Day chairpersons Wendy and Larry Meyers have only one committee chair opening – for parking lot control / shuttle.
FLEET CAPTAIN: Fleet Captain George Austin reported on the President’s Day Cruise, and reminded members of the traditional cruise to Andrews Bay on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, including corned beef and cabbage by Willie on Friday night. The Big Brother Cruise is scheduled for June, and a summer cruise to the San Juan Islands is planned.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
REGATTA POWER: Captain Bob Lindal reported results of the Bremerton Heavy Weather Race. Upcoming events include the Meydenbauer, Novice and Old Timer’s, and Gig Harbor Races. On Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 PM there will be a class on use of the Coastal Explorer charting software.
OTHER REPORTS: Captain Jerry Zuvich, using a number of props, illustrated what will be happening during the April 28 Pride of Queen City work party. Those who can’t help can contribute funds for the effort. Then he disrobed.
Captain Gary Stone reported on the 520 Committee’s dealing with Washington Department of Transportation – six proposals have been approved from an engineering standpoint, and that information will be to the Committee in weeks.
P/C Grimm reported that milfoil eradication work is expected to begin in April.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: Captain Jerry Zuvich discussed better placement of the bulletin board than between the restrooms downstairs, and proposed livening up the main clubhouse by adding nautical-themed accoutrements. Thankfully, he did not disrobe.
RECEPTION: R/C Roberts again recognized Captain Gary Stone as the senior member in attendance and Captain Jim Hess as the junior member in attendance. 50 members were present, along with seven Past Commodores, who were recognized.
QUARTER POT: Captain Harris Johnson pulled for Friday lunches and quarter pot. Captains Jess Hill and Robert Murphy won Friday lunches, and Captain Gene Wykoff won the quarter pot, which he donated to the “nautical refurbishment fund.”
GOOD & WELFARE: Captain Jess Hill laboriously read a Wyoming state police report, which resulted in the Secretary having no chance of making the 9:00 ferry.
